Valeriia Sakhovska

Ukraine

Valeriia is a photographic artist from Ukraine, currently residing and working in Kyiv. She began her journey into photography in 2008, attending over ten photo courses and schools before pursuing a master’s degree in art history, from which she graduated. Initially involved in various types of commercial photography, Valeriia now focuses exclusively on creative photography. She has a particular affinity for black and white photography, using light and shadow to express emotions and moods deeply.
Valeriia ’s work is characterized by its intimacy and sensuality, often featuring tactile imagery. She explores multiple genres, including nude, landscape, street, still life, and abstract photography. As a member of the National Union of Photographic Artists of Ukraine and an art critic, her work has been featured in the electronic edition of Italian Vogue and the American gallery YourDailyPhotograph, where she was listed among the Top-100 photographers in 2022.
Her inspirations include renowned photographers like Andre Kertesz, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Saul Leiter, Ernst Haas, Ruth Bernhard, Edward Weston, and Ralph Gibson, as well as modern photographers and film operators. She is also inspired by the works of artists from the Bauhaus school of design and from classical artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Jan Vermeer, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Henri Matisse, and Pierre Bonnard.
In 2020, her photo “Silk” won 2nd place in the Fragment category at the Annual Open photo contest named after Serhiy Ostapovsky “Ukrainian Nude.” Also, she took part in the following exhibitions:
