Scotland - James Strachan
FIGURATIVE AND ITS HUMANITARIAN VISION
James Strachan is a Scottish figurative artist who lives and works on the west coast of Scotland. After leaving Glasgow School of Art, James worked as a figurative painter, selling his work at a number of galleries, including the Old Basement Galleries in London. He has exposed both internationally and nationally.
James' work is about change in the landscape and people of his hometown. “Mixing images of people and places from the past with our modern society, in hopes that humanity and compassion will be our future” is the message underlying his work.
James works with old-fashioned fumig and light-dark techniques before abstracting them using fine paint enameles with thick dough brushes to achieve his style. This technique allows James to establish an atmosphere for his painting that correlates with any weather.
James is also a prolific mural artist who carries out a wide range of commissions in Scotland. James' great passion is being Director of Scottish charity RIG Arts, which allows him to work with a range of communities, teaching the importance of creativity in our society and how art can be made with anything.
