MOIRA BEATY SSW (1922-2015) Born in Ayrshire, she won a scholarship to Glasgow School of Art in 1939, taking time out to join the war effort as a cryptographer at Bletchley Park. She exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Glasgow Institute, and the Scottish Society of Women Artists, who elected her as a member in 1974. Her first solo exhibition took place in 1979 at the Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh. 

Her work was also displayed in an exhibition of ‘Four Scottish Painters’ at the Cadogan Contemporary Gallery in London. In 2014 she opened the Glas iris Exhibition in Kirkcudbright Town Hall where some of her own works were on display. Represented in a number of public collections, including Hawick Museum and the Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries.
