About Artist
English painter and printmaker. Trained in in York and Guildford 1949—53. His first exhibition was held at Leeds Art gallery in 1953. In the 1960s he became well known for his abstracts, which evolved into stylised figural images in the ’70s and ’80s. Since 1961 he had nearly 70 shows, many in Germany, carried out a number of commissions in Europe and had work acquired by several public collections. The University of York made Langton an artist fellow in 1978, awarding him an honorary doctorate in 1995. His work is represented in the collections of the University of York, Merchant Adventurers Hall, York, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and Leeds Art Gallery.
