About Artist
Artist, architect, and former President of the Royal Scottish Academy. Born in Stranraer he trained at the Glasgow School of Architecture in the late 1930s, where he was awarded several travelling scholarships. Went on to have a successful career as an artist, architect and senior lecturer at Dundee School of Architecture. According to Glasgow School of Art, Wheeler was a “pioneer of modernism” noted for work such as the Hunter Building at Edinburgh College of Art. In the early 1980s he settled in Edinburgh's Dean Village.
